What Wildwood-Academy does
Wildwood Academy is a small independent school in Mt. Hood Parkdale, about 14 miles south of Hood River, serving students in grades 3 to 8 from across the Columbia Gorge. Students learn in two mixed-age groups, grades 3-5 and 6-8, through hands-on, project-based and place-based learning with outdoor experiences and limited technology use. The school offers before- and after-school shuttles to Hood River and Cascade Locks, an after-school program, and a hybrid program for local homeschool students. Adventure Mondays include activities such as ice caves, kayaking, cross-country skiing and hiking.

Choosing a school, tutor or training provider
A good course is measured by what students can do afterwards, not by the brochure. Ask for evidence of outcomes and try a sample lesson where you can.
What to check
- Accreditation or recognition of the qualification it leads to
- Class size and how much one-to-one time you get
- Teacher qualifications and experience in the subject
- Refund and cancellation terms before you pay
Questions to ask
- Can I sit in on a class or take a trial lesson?
- What did past students go on to do?
- What is included in the fee, and what costs extra?
