Why it matters

A missing favicon makes a site look unfinished.

The favicon is the small icon in browser tabs, bookmarks, phone home screens and next to your site in Google’s mobile results. Without one, people see a blank page icon, which looks careless next to competitors.

What size should a favicon be?
Browsers use 16 and 32 pixels in tabs and 48 in some places, which is why favicon.ico holds all three. Phones use 180 px (Apple) and 192 and 512 px (Android and Chrome). This tool makes every size.
Do I still need a favicon.ico file?
Yes. Some browsers, RSS readers and tools still ask for /favicon.ico first. Modern browsers then pick the PNG sizes from your HTML tags.
Why does my favicon not change?
Browsers keep favicons in their cache for a long time. Open the icon file directly (yoursite.com/favicon.ico), reload it, and try a private window. Adding ?v=2 to the icon links in your HTML forces a refresh.
How do I add a favicon to WordPress?
Go to Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Site Icon and upload the 512 px PNG. WordPress then makes the other sizes for you.
Is my logo uploaded anywhere?
No. The icons are drawn in your browser and the ZIP file is built there too.
Is the rest of your site as polished?
The SEO Sprint checks your titles, icons, share images and speed, and fixes what stops your site from looking professional in search.
