Is anyone actually engaging with your posts?

Add up likes, comments, shares and saves from your last few posts. Get your engagement rate by followers and by reach, and a plain-English read on what it means.

What you get

  • Rate by followers and by reach
  • Works for any platform
  • Totals over several posts, not one lucky one

Writing the next post? Check it with the post checker.

Add up the last 10 posts (not your best one) from Instagram insights. Totals over several posts give a fairer rate than a single post.

Engagement rate by followers

3.2%

Good. 3% to 6% is strong, especially for accounts with more than a few thousand followers.

(800 interactions ÷ 10 posts) ÷ 2,500 followers × 100

Engagement rate by reach

—

Add reach or views to see how the people who saw your posts responded, not just your followers.

Per post

80

interactions

Comments share

10.63%

of all interactions

The bands are a rough guide, not a grade: rates vary a lot by platform, niche and account size, and smaller accounts usually score higher. Compare against your own past months first. Nothing you type is stored.

Engagement, briefly

Followers are a vanity number. Engagement shows who is listening.

A small account where people comment and share sells more than a big one nobody reacts to. Track your rate monthly from the same number of posts and watch the trend, not one figure.

How is engagement rate calculated?
Add likes, comments, shares and saves across a set of posts, divide by the number of posts, then divide by your followers and multiply by 100. By reach uses the people who saw the posts instead of followers.
What is a good engagement rate?
As a rough guide, 1% to 3% by followers is typical for business accounts and above 3% is strong. It varies a lot by platform, niche and account size: small accounts usually score higher.
Should I use followers or reach?
Use reach when you have it. Platforms show each post to only some of your followers, so reach measures how the people who actually saw it responded.
Which interactions count?
Likes or reactions, comments, shares or reposts, and saves. Comments and saves are the strongest signals, so a high share of those is a good sign even if likes are modest.
