Open Graph, briefly
A link without an image gets a fraction of the clicks.
When you share a page, LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp and X read its og: tags to build the card. No og:image means a bare text link; a wrongly sized one gets cropped or shrunk to a thumbnail.
- What size should an Open Graph image be?
- 1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) works on LinkedIn, Facebook and X. Keep it under 1 MB, use JPG or PNG, and keep text away from the edges.
- Why does LinkedIn still show my old image?
- LinkedIn and Facebook cache previews for days. After fixing your tags, paste the URL into LinkedIn's Post Inspector or Facebook's Sharing Debugger to refresh it.
- Which tags do I need?
- At minimum og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url, plus twitter:card set to summary_large_image for the big card on X.
- Are the previews exact?
- They follow each site's current layout closely, but the sites change their designs often. The tag checks underneath are what matter.
- Writing the tags?
- The meta tag generator writes title, description and Open Graph tags ready to paste.
