Cut-offs are typical, not exact: each app and screen width differs. The score is a checklist, not a promise of opens; sending reputation and a clean list matter more to the spam folder than any one word. Nothing you type is stored.

Subject lines, briefly

Say what is inside, in under 50 characters.

People decide in a second whether to open. A short, specific subject line that matches the email beats a clever one, and a preview text that adds a second reason to open gives you two lines instead of one.

How long should an email subject line be?
Around 30 to 50 characters, or 4 to 9 words. Most phones show 35 to 45 characters before cutting the line off, so put the important words first.
Which words send emails to spam?
No single word does on its own, but phrases like “free money”, “act now”, “risk-free” and “100%”, lots of capitals and several exclamation marks add up. Your sending reputation and list quality matter more.
What is preview text?
The short line inboxes show after the subject. If you don't set it, the inbox shows the first words of the email, often “View in browser”. Most email tools have a preview text or preheader field.
Should I use emoji in subject lines?
One relevant emoji can help an email stand out in a busy inbox. More than one looks like promotion and can hurt with some filters and readers.
