- The range runs from 80% to 130% of the hours, because scope moves once work starts.
- Running cost: $15 domain + $120 hosting + 2 h a month of upkeep ($960 a year).
- A quote far below the range usually leaves something out: ask which lines it skips.

A website quote is hours times a rate. Ask for both.
Two quotes for the same site can differ five times over. Usually one includes the writing, SEO setup, testing and training and the other doesn't. Knowing the hours behind each line lets you compare like with like.
- How much does a small business website cost?
- It depends on the hours, not the label. A six-page business site on a template with a contact form, SEO setup and analytics takes about 45 hours. At 40 an hour that is roughly 1,400–2,300; at 120 an hour, about 4,300–7,000.
- Why do website quotes vary so much?
- Different hourly rates, and different scope. One quote may include writing the text, SEO setup and training, another may leave them out. Compare quotes line by line against the breakdown here.
- What does a website cost to run each year?
- A domain, hosting, and a few hours a month for updates, backups and small edits. The upkeep hours usually cost more than the domain and hosting together.
- Is a template or a custom design better?
- A template is faster and cheaper and fine for most small businesses. A custom design is worth it when your brand needs to stand out or the site has unusual pages a template doesn't cover.
- Already have a site that isn’t working?
- Before paying for a new one, the Website & SEO Audit shows what is holding the current site back and whether a fix is enough.
